Wonderful spire
We have visited this site many times, two of which for the assembly for the marches on Washington in the 80's and again a few short years ago. The stairs are no longer accessible due to safety concerns so the elevator is only way up, be prepared for a line.
Tallest Structure in D. C.
At 555 feet high, the Washington Monument is the tallest structure in Washington, D. C. By today's skyscraper standards, this structure is not that big, but when it first opened in 1888, it was the world's tallest structure! I have visited it several times, and there were lengthy entrance lines each time, so be prepared for a wait.
