“Breeders Are Invading!!!”
I used to enjoy this place three years ago. It's definitely the most upscale gay bar in Los Angeles, with occasional celebrity sightings, but straight people started taking over when new owners took over about a year ago. Also, every attractive bartender is heterosexual. It's fine for taking out-of-town guests, but if you want great dancing and a queer party, there are better options elsewhere.

More than a year ago: excellent spot for watching people, strong drinks, and it works well both as a nightclub and as a daytime place to sit outdoors, have a drink and lunch. Great music, good-looking bartenders, but don't bring your mother.

Over a year ago. This is probably the most famous bar globally, and the Abbey has everything. Downsides: it's become very popular with straight women, and the food is mediocre. Upsides: it's a big gay wonderland where you can eat and drink with friends, watch comedy, socialize, and even cruise for dates. Everyone goes here, some people complain, but if you come with a fun mindset you'll have a great time. Attractive bartenders, lively crowd, excellent happy hour.

The Abbey is a blast. It always delivers. It's ideal for bringing visiting friends, grabbing a tasty drink, dancing all night, or celebrating something special. Life is about memories, and I've made many at the Abbey.
