11 months ago UNINHABITABLE. Dirty room, urine smelling bed, bugs. I had a reservation for the nights of May 22, 23 2025. After check-in I proceeded to move my belongings into the room. Upon entering the room, it had an odor of urine and the floors were very dirty. I cleaned the floors with Lysol wipes and sprayed the room with Lysol. I proceeded to advise the front desk clerk (at about 4:30 PM on May 22) about the uncleanliness of the room. I took one of the Lysol wipes to show her. She was very pleasant and explained that the hotel doesn’t currently have any housekeeping employees but she would discuss the issue with the hotel manager to see if there was anything that could be done. I never heard from the hotel manager. The urine smell was bad, but I continued to spray the Lysol. I stayed the night, and determined after getting into the bed that the urine smell was from the mattress. When I woke up in the morning my spouse had bug bites. I lifted up the sheets and discovered what appeared to be bug carcasses or bug feces. The hotel room was uninhabitable. I packed up my vehicle then proceeded to the front desk to advise the clerk that I was checking out due to the room being uninhabitable. At approximately 10:35 on May 23, I was met with a very rude and unprofessional woman at the front desk. I explained the issues with the room. She said sarcastically, what do you expect to be done. I said I want the night that I am not staying to be refunded. She bluntly said, we don’t give refunds. She said make a claim with your credit card company. The clerk never went to inspect the room and didn’t even look at the photos that I have. It’s obvious that the hotel manager is not doing her job and whoever was working the front desk at 10:35 on May 23 needs some lessons in customer service. If you encounter the same problem, file a dispute with your credit card, file a complaint with BBB, and file with DE Attorney General Office so this place is investigated for unhealthy conditions.I

Central to everything

My partner and I have stayed four different times at the Breakers. The hotel has undergone some renovations and continues to update the outside from normal weather conditions. In fact, in this last visit we stayed in one of the renovated rooms. New beds, furniture, décor, etc. Overall the hotel is not bad for the value and the close proximity to everything. If you are looking for a no thrills inn and walking distance to the beach and the gayborhood, look no further. I would point out there is no gym but they do partner with a gym within walking distance for a small fee. Enjoy…

For the gay travelers Aqua is across the street which is a popular after beach "watering hole" for a drink after a day at the beach while joining friends and Blue Moon is roughly a block away. Close to most gay bars/restaurants and approximately 1 mile from Poodle Beach you can't go wrong when booking your stay at The Breakers Hotel & Suites!
