Chez Josephine
Over-the-top charm in the theater district
Est. 1986
About
The ornate detail and lavish decor can only have come from a fabulously gay restauranteur. At Chez Josephine you'll find great food and something to marvel at around every corner.
From the Owner
Jean-Claude Baker - Born in Dijon, France, and met Josephine Baker when he was working as a bellhop in Paris at the age of fourteen. He first came to the U.S. on Josephine Baker's final American tour in 1973. Her bold inspiration led him to pursue a remarkably colorful and successful career that has included being a model, nightclub owner, recording artist, ACE Award-winning television producer, New York Times best-selling author of "Josephine: The Hungry Heart", and restaurateur.
A tribute to legendary Josephine Baker, this Parisian bistro with live music and a tantalizing menu exudes theatrical panache. One of New York's most romantic restaurants, a bit of Montmartre on 42nd Street, where Jean-Claude Baker and Jarry Baker are your warm and welcoming hosts who treat guests as family. The eclectic menu reinvents the traditional cuisine of the French bistro. At anytime, you can experience what Jean-Claude Baker calls his "human cocktail" - a medley of celebrities, local color, and a loyal and devoted following from all over the world.
