About

Bar: Beer & wine

You might expect a Times Square cineplex to be all flash and no substance, but AMC Empire 25 has a deeper history. Originally a Broadway theater and burlesque house, it became the most successful movie house in America. Today it offers 25 screens, showing everything from indie films to summer blockbusters. The crowd is mixed gay-straight and all ages, making it a casual, family-friendly spot. It gets lively, especially on weekends, with beer and wine available to enjoy during shows.

"It's basically the only theater I use when I'm in town for movies."

The location is unbeatable: right in Times Square, walking distance from Hell's Kitchen. Regulars know it's one of the most convenient queer-friendly theaters in the city. But the 2.6 Yelp rating is no secret: long lines, sticky floors, and worn seats are common complaints. If you go, avoid peak hours and buy tickets ahead. The free WiFi is a plus, but don't expect luxury. It's reliable for a movie fix, not a night out.

Located in the center of Times Square, it's a short walk from Hell's Kitchen and surrounded by theaters and tourist attractions.
