Theaterlab is a New York City performance venue, presenting organization, and producer of original artistic works. Theaterlab is a true laboratory where resident and visiting artists can engage in the research and development of new works, teach classes and workshops, and present the results of their research to a public audience.
From the Owner
Orietta is an accomplished theatre artist, born in Italy. A graduate of the prestigious Piccolo Teatro School in Milan, she worked with the major Italian directors Giorgio Strehler and Massimo Castri. She later taught acting and directing there. Among her many theatre projects are: Passport No. 23.922, a piece she wrote and directed on the life of Tina Modotti; and a three year project in Trieste directing the plays of Pirandello's Italian contemporaries She is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and the League of Professional Theatre Women. In addition to her theatre work, Ms. Crispino has done art projects on the body in its performative aspect. Her body research culminated in a performance piece with the photographer Vibeke Jensen, Camera Obscura, shown at PS1 in New York, Bogota and Trieste. Her most recent production at Theaterlab is Three Sisters Come and Go. She is currently working on a new piece, Snow in the Living Room.
Theaterlab offers unique, beautifully appointed white box studios that are perfect for rehearsals, performances, events, auditions, art exhibits, meetings, film screenings, readings, classes & more. An artist-run space that caters to performing artists, visual artists, filmmakers, and NYC's amazing creative community. Free WiFi. Theaterlab has three gorgeous spaces--Theater, Gallery and Studio--in the heart of Midtown (West 36th Street) and is open every day of the year (except Christmas and Thanksgiving) from 9am to 22pm. Our flexible Theater is perfect for innovative productions. We've hosted productions from top indie theater companies as well as international artists. The Theater is equipped with a projector, lighting instruments, sound system and more. Our Gallery is a very popular space for rehearsals, readings, visual art exhibitions, photography sessions and more due to its natural light. The Studio is perfect for table readings, meetings, installations and voice over work.
