You might expect a historic venue to feel stuffy, but Town Hall is surprisingly down-to-earth. Founded in 1921 as a suffrage meeting place, this National Historic Site has hosted Marian Anderson and Garrison Keillor. Its lineup spans world music, jazz, gospel, show tunes, political humor, and its own Broadway by the Year series. It's also where many NYC school kids get their first theater experience.
The box office is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 6pm. It's located in Times Square, between 6th and 7th Avenues. If you're planning a day of culture, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is a short walk away.
