7 months ago We booked this stay on Airbnb recently based on its glowing reviews but we were truly bamboozled. As seasoned Fire Island Pines vacationers and long-time Airbnb users, we’ve come to expect a certain standard, and this property didn’t come close. The photos are clearly many years old and bear no resemblance to the current state of the home. What we arrived to was a rundown, filthy property that hasn’t been properly cleaned or maintained in ages. Upholstery, rugs, and linens were all stained. The towels smelled foul and were unusable. The entire house reeked of mildew, and there were visible water stains and damage on the ceiling. We spent over an hour scrubbing the kitchen upon arrival before it was even usable. One refrigerator smelled like spoiled rotting shellfish and was so poorly positioned that the door couldn’t open fully, the shelves were jammed in place and impossible to remove for cleaning. Bedrooms smelled of unwashed laundry, bedding had fiberglass fibers, and “extra” blankets were musty and unusable. We also paid for a heated pool that was dirty and far colder than the advertised 90 degrees. This property is being blatantly misrepresented online and should not be listed in its current state. It’s a shame Airbnb allows something in this condition to continue being rented out. Be warned.
