From the Owner
I was born in a small Sicilian town, not far from Palermo, called Baucina. The few hundred inhabitants there seem to be from another era -- with that warm, simple lifestyle for which Italy is known the world over. Having finishing my schooling and military service, it unfortunately became clear to me that my little town offered few work possibilities. So, fueled perhaps by the same American Dream that over the years had enticed countless Sicilian families, I set off for the United States. We are inspired by the famous Italian gelaterie, born in the early 70's, that continue to draw customers from all over the world. Just as they were symbols of the great economic rebirth and promise of post-war Italy, we strive to symbolize an authentic, completely natural, and of course, delicious product.
Our goal is prepare for you fresh everyday the best and healthiest gelato that we can produce. To do so we must be rigorous in our search for the finest ingredients that nature can offer - the freshest milk and heavy cream, hazelnuts, pistachios, eggs, a variety of fruits ripe and tasty, high quality cocoa and chocolate, vanilla right out of the pod, and so much more. It is essential for us that everything we use is in its natural state. No processed junk with long chemical names, just health friendly, whole foods. Everyday we utilize our craft in a clean, hygienic environment according to the best traditional Italian recipes.

Top Quality Gelato Without the Attitude
Not only is L'Arte del Gelato some of the best gelato in NYC, it is moderately priced for Manhattan. They are a bit skimpy at the Chelsea Market location and not as friendly. The servers at the W Village location are often cute and polite.
