Lombardi's

About
This is a classic, family-friendly spot with a mixed gay and straight crowd, known as New York's oldest pizzeria. Since 1897, Lombardi's has been serving coal-fired pizza from its original oven, and the space recently doubled in size by taking over the adjacent room. The original half, with worn booths and an open kitchen, has more charm than the newer dining area, but the expansion means the famously long wait has been cut in half. A full bar now makes waiting easier.
Reservations are accepted, and the outdoor seating is dog friendly. For a different slice of New York history, you might also check out Katz's Delicatessen nearby. The pizza is worth the trip, but come early or be ready to wait—even with the extra space, it's still popular.
