About

Nobu New York, the flagship restaurant of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, has been a pioneer for Japanese cuisine since its opening in 1994. Nobu partnered with restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro to bring his modern Japanese to Tribeca. Nobu draws upon his classical training at sushi bars in Tokyo and his life abroad in Peru, Argentina, and around the world to create a whole new trend in Japanese cuisine.

From the Owner

Born and raised in Saitama, Japan, Nobu Matsuhisa began his cooking career with a rigorous apprenticeship at a respected sushi bar in Tokyo. After honing his craft in Peru and Argentina, he settled in Los Angeles and opened Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills, California, in January 1987. Matsuhisa was an instant success and became a magnet for food lovers and celebrities alike. It was at actor and director Robert De Niro's urging that together they opened the very first Nobu in New York City in 1994 with restaurateur Drew Nieporent. Like Matsuhisa, Nobu was an instant hit. The success led to Chef Nobu and various partnerships opening restaurants and hotels around the world. In addition to his restaurant accolades and personal honors, Chef Nobu has also written 5 cook books and in 2014, Nobu released his first autobiography in Japanese titled The Smiling Faces of My Guests Mean Everything. It was translated into English with the title Nobu A Memoir and released in 2017.

Nobu Downtown is situated in the heart of Manhattan's Financial District, offering a striking subterranean dining experience, as well as an exclusive sake table and a beautiful private event space. Descend the stairs to the dining room to indulge in Nobu signatures including Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Jalapeno; and new menu items including Grilled Octopus with Chocolo Salsa, Sizzling Uni Yaki, and Bigeye Tuna Tataki with Truffle Eryngii Mushrooms. Add innovative Omakase and seasonal off-the-menu dishes menus created at the 13-seat sushi bar and open kitchen, and become immersed in the next era of Nobu's genre-defining new style Japanese cuisine.

It's Ok

Over hyped, food could of been way better for the price and rave. If you go there just go to be a part of the "crowd" and to say you been, GO, but if your going for a good meal, I would try elsewhere.
