About

New York City's only queer bookstore is run entirely by volunteers who also operate it as a cultural center and event space. The Bureau of General Services—Queer Division hosts readings, performances, film screenings, and discussion groups, offering books, publications, and art that foster a mindful, sex-positive community. It's a space for local and visiting queers to socialize and explore.

The Bureau has been hosted by The LGBT Community Center since 2014, after starting at Strange Loop Gallery in 2012. It's open Wednesday through Sunday, 1pm to 7pm. You'll find a mix of 20-somethings through 50-somethings browsing the shelves or attending a workshop. It's a casual, inclusive spot that feels like a community hub.
